Anatomy Scan

This past Friday was our 20-week Anatomy Scan and I'm soooooo relieved to report that it went well!  Baby measured right on size and all the parts seemed to be present!  Similar to the Fetal Echo appointment, the sonogram technician said our baby was "very active".  Unlike the Fetal Echo though where the technician had to chase the baby all around my abdominal area, the Anatomy Scan technician joked that all she had to do was hold her wand in one place because the baby was turning so much that he/she was showing her everything.  At least it wasn't another wild goose chase all over my belly!

When the sonographer said our baby was "very active", I jokingly replied that I wonder where it gets that from, because I'm pretty lazy myself.  Her response?  "Not for long!!!  You better buy yourself a pair of roller skates!"  Gulp!!

As we mentioned in a previous post, we did NOT find out the baby's sex.  I realize this puts me in what seems at least in my life as the very minority of pregnant women, and I also fully realize that in some ways we're making things a little harder on ourselves by not finding out early, but what's done is done!  We are committed to being surprised, and {although I caught Shep momentarily trying to sneak a peak at the monitor while the sono technician checked out the lower half of our baby's body} surprised we will be!  Don't worry, he didn't see anything -- I made sure of it.  ;)

Here's one of the photos we got to take home:

Like a proud papa-to-be, Shep sent the photo to our moms and some other family members when we got home, and my mother-in-law replied that the baby has my nose.  Not sure how she could even tell from a photo that small and blurry, but I'll take it!  Either way, I think he/she is very cute!  ;)

This pregnancy is now {finally} starting to get very real to me!  I was a bit nervous going into the appointment, no doubt thanks to PGAL brain, but feel a bit more relaxed now.  Now I'm just realizing there's so much to do and dwindling time to do it!!!

  1. I'm so glad the anatomy scan went well!! I'm sure it's a huge relief to know that everything is growing & developing as it should and you have a healthy little one! And what a sweet pic of your baby....it's so amazing, isn't it?! Hopefully this gives you some peace of mind so you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy without the constant anxiety (yeah, I know...easier said than done, right?) It will be so fun to finally find out if your baby is a boy or a girl....I don't think any surprise could ever top that one :) I know we (all your readers!) will be anxiously awaiting the announcement in May!

I had an appointment yesterday (I'll be 15wk on Sun), and both of my babies look GREAT! My hubby and I were stressed out and anxious (as usual), but seeing them bouncing around in there really helped us to realize that we just need to chill out and enjoy this process. We want to know the babies' sex, and after yesterday, my doc is pretty certain that one baby is a boy! The other one kept it's legs crossed the entire time, stubborn little monkey :) That baby also had it's butt pushed right up against the other baby's head....we may have a li'l firecracker on our hands, lol! We'll get confirmation on the sex of each baby at the anatomy scan on 2/13....I can't wait! (Ironically, 2/13 was the due date of the baby that we lost in July....I'm hoping that this next appointment will turn bring some joy to an otherwise bittersweet day.

I hope you are feeling better and the nausea has finally calmed down! Take care of yourself and keep us updated :)

    1. Allie, I'm so glad to hear that your 15 week appointment went well and that you got to see both babies!!!! That must've been a huge relief for you two, I'm sure!! One boy and ???? Do you have any feelings as to whether the sex of the other baby might be? :) I can't wait to find out from you when you do learn!

I'm sorry that your loss due date is coming up ... I know that will be tough; it was for me. I think you make an excellent point though which is that you'll have something very positive to focus on during 2/13. Hopefully that will help make the day a little less painful for you. xo

  2. He/she is absolutely beautiful!! I applaud you for not finding out the sex. I am the type of person who has to know EVERYTHING there is to know and I'm blown away by people who have the self-control to wait. I will definitely be eagerly stalking your blog come May to find out if you're team pink or blue! I'm glad your scan went well and that you can sit back and relax and enjoy your pregnancy knowing baby is beautiful and healthy.

    1. Hi Charlotte, thanks so much for dropping by! Couples not finding out the sex in advance are becoming fewer and harder to come by, so I'm excited to be in good company with you and your husband! ;)

I am in awe that you were able to hold out and not find out what the sex of the baby is. It will be such a wonderful surprise! I'm so impatient I would have told them to tell me. LOL! AGain, congrats to you, sweet friend!! XO

    1. Thank you, Mel!!! There was a second where we considered having the tech right it down in a sealed envelope, but then Shep thought he'd be too tempted to open it. ;) We did have that little moment of doubt about whether to find out or be surprise, but we went with "surprised" in the end! :)
