Crib? Check!

Yikes... we officially purchased a crib and dresser!!!  We'd been looking around for a few weeks, and it was about time we finally made a decision since the clock is definitely ticking, but there was something about actually placing the order that was scary!  I know many of my pregnant peers already have their entire nurseries ready by this point in time, or sooner, and I am very impressed by their organization and drive.  The truth is though that I am a bit of a procrastinator in life -- due equally to my incurable indecisiveness and my aversion to change!!  I know this baby is coming, and there is nothing I would ever want to do to change that fact, but I've been having a really hard time actually picturing what life is going to be like once our little one arrives.  Submitting the order for such an important purchase was like giving in to the change about to come into our lives, and admitting that WE'RE GOING TO BE PARENTS IN ONLY A COUPLE MONTHS!!!!  We're going to be solely responsible -- 24/7 for at least the next 18 years -- for the physical and emotional care, safety, health, entertainment, development and love of a tiny little person that's completely dependent on us.  Talk about scary...

Well, before I freak myself out any further, let me show you our future baby's nursery furniture!

It's nothing fancy, but we like it.  The room we're using for a nursery is very small {I'm talking 6' x 8' small}, so we can't fit much in there but we're hoping {knock on wood} that these 2 pieces don't look totally cramped in the little area.  We also ordered a changing station that attaches to the top of the dresser, but it's anybody's guess as to whether we actually end up using that piece.  ;)

As I mentioned in a prior post {link here}, we're focused on safety above all else, and so have been looking into various non-toxic options for the nursery.  After a response comment from UL Environment on my prior blog post {thanks for reading, UL!}; I did a bit more research on Greenguard certification and we decided that for our situation the Greenguard-certified products are worth the additional cost to us.  Our future nursery is an internal room, which means there isn't a window in there, and so we're hyper-sensitive to the potential for any chemicals to be given off by the furniture.  For that reason, we decided that this option was best for us.

And since we are spending a bit more for the super-non-toxic-certified crib, we figured it would be a good idea to get an equally non-toxic mattress, so we're going with the Naturepedic organic cotton waterproof crib mattress:

No, this isn't an infomercial, but I realize that it's starting to sound that way.  Sorry about that!  I'm just so relieved that we finally made these decisions, so I wanted to share!

We placed the furniture order before we left for our babymoon, because (1) we figured setting a deadline was the only way it would get done and (2) the pieces were supposed to take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to be delivered.  BUT, we already got a call this week from the store letting us know that they're in and ready for delivery!  Double yikes!!  But because we weren't expecting them to arrive so soon, now the store has to hold them for us until we get our butts in gear and decide on paint colors for the room...  Ah, the "to-do list" never ends!!!

  1. Hey! I love the furniture you picked out for your nursery! That crib is great....When you get everything all put together, you'll have to post a pic so we can see the finished product :) Do you have a color scheme picked out? We ordered all of our nursery furniture in February, and we actually assembled all of it over the past couple of weeks! My husband works from home, so his desk is still in his "office" (which will become the nursery after we move him to another room), so he's been working all day, every day while staring at 2 cribs, 2 dressers, and a changing table.....talk about a big dose of reality!! :)

It's so funny, because everyone says to enjoy this part of the pregnancy because it's your last time to be without kids, but I will just be so relieved when mine get here (but not rushing it, I still have awhile and I want them to be fully cooked before they make their appearance!). But, I don't know what stresses me out more....the lack of control over the pregnancy and the development of my babies, OR all of the terrifying responsibilities that you mentioned above! It's kind of a toss up, lol!

I am so excited for you guys and it's so fun to read all of your updates. So glad that the recent doctor appointments and tests went well and your baby is healthy and growing like he/she should be! That is the most important thing! Hopefully you'll continue feeling good and can enjoy getting things prepared for your little bundle :) Have fun!!

    1. Hi Allie, it's so great to hear from you!!! I can only imagine what a super-sized dose of reality it would be to have 2 cribs and 2 dressers!! But it's also double the fun, right?! :) I think you hit the nail right on the head -- I've had a hard time figuring out for myself whether it's more stressful to be pregnant and have such little control over what's going on in there and keeping the baby safe and healthy versus having the baby outside the womb and then having ALL the responsibility to keep him/her safe and healthy!!! It's really a toss-up -- you're totally right! :)

Thanks so much for the note and for continuing to read my blog! I'm so glad that things are going well for you and your little ones physically, and that you're getting so much prep work accomplished!!!

  2. I absolutely love your crib and dresser! Very clean looking. It's funny how people have such different personalities. I'm a super type-A person and extremely quick with decision making (sometimes too quick) so we had the skeleton of the nursery all set up by 20 weeks! I'm a little ridiculous.

What theme/colors are you going with for the nursery since you're on team green? I can't wait to see pics of it all put together!

    1. Thank you so much!!! Having the nursery basics ready by Week 20 is not ridiculous at all -- it's AWESOME!!! I'm so jealous that you're so quick with decision making -- that's always been a tough area for me!

We're not really sure yet what colors we're going with for the nursery.... yet another thing on our to-do list. ;) The room we're using for the baby when it's little is really small, so there isn't much room for a "theme" really. We're basically just trying to pick out a neutral pastel wall color, and some plain sheets and then once the baby comes we will add some more gender-specific touches. Probably not the wisest idea to be assigning ourselves "to dos" for after the baby arrives, but that's what happens when you're Team Green I guess! :) I'll definitely share more info along the way as we make decisions, and will absolutely share photos! Thanks so much for the encouragement! :)

  3. Several people have asked what our "theme" is and so far it's "do whatever we can to make sure our kid doesn't have to sleep in a dresser drawer". That's about it!

  4. i love the draws and crib! so cute! you have so much nice stuff in the USA, i made the mistake of looking at Pottery Barn (drool)! there isn't much choice in NZ for cribs they all look the same! Love all you have done. I think like you said it's just different people's personalities on their organisation. I don't think i would be so organised if we hadn't been ttc so long and then i kinda started planning with the m.c too. Sometimes i feel embarrased i'm too organised (oops) sending big hugs

    1. Thanks so much, Charlotte! To be honest, a lot of the cribs I've seen in the USA look pretty much the same, too. ;) A lot of them are beautiful, but some of the convertible ones were just too darn big for the little room we'll be using as a nursery, so it was tough to find something on the smaller side, but that still uses a standard size mattress.

Never feel embarrassed for being too organized! There's no such thing!!! :) Honestly, I think it's great that you have such a good start already -- that means that as the time comes for baby to be delivered, you'll hopefully have a little time to relax, rest, and enjoy some time with your hubby! My hubby and I are spending our weekends doing chores these days. ;)
